Rhyme Scheme: A B CDEE AAAA FFGG HIJK LLMM AANN

The gospel the power of God to salvationA
-
RomB
-
What shall the dying sinner doC
That seeks relief for all his woeD
Where shall the guilty conscience findE
Ease for the torment of the mindE
-
How shall we get our crimes forgiv'nA
Or form our natures fit for heav'nA
Can souls all o'er defiled with sinA
Make their own powers and passions cleanA
-
In vain we search in vain we tryF
Till Jesus brings his gospel nighF
'Tis there such power and glory dwellG
As save rebellious souls from hellG
-
This is the pillar of our hopeH
That bears our fainting spirits upI
We read the grace we trust the wordJ
And find salvation in the LordK
-
Let men or angels dig the minesL
Where nature's golden treasure shinesL
Brought near the doctrine of the crossM
All nature's gold appears but drossM
-
Should vile blasphemers with disdainA
Pronounce the truths of Jesus vainA
I'll meet the scandal and the shameN
And sing and triumph in his nameN
