Hymn 31 Part 1 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A A AAAA BABA CACA ADAD AEAE

Condescending graceA
-
PsaA
-
When the Eternal bows the skiesA
To visit earthly thingsA
With scorn divine he turns his eyesA
From towers of haughty kingsA
-
He bids his aweful chariot rollB
Far downward from the skiesA
To visit every humble soulB
With pleasure in his eyesA
-
Why should the Lord that reigns aboveC
Disdain so lofty kingsA
Say Lord and why such looks of loveC
Upon such worthless thingsA
-
Mortals be dumb what creature daresA
Dispute his aweful willD
Ask no account of his affairsA
But tremble and be stillD
-
Just like his nature is his graceA
All sovereign and all freeE
Great God how searchless are thy waysA
How deep thy judgments beE
