Hymn 23 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFG HIJI KLML NBOB

The sight of God and Christ in heavenA
-
Descend from heav'n immortal DoveB
Stoop down and take us on thy wingsC
And mount and bear us far aboveB
The reach of these inferior thingsC
-
Beyond beyond this lower skyD
Up where eternal ages rollE
Where solid pleasures never dieD
And fruits immortal feast the soulE
-
O for a sight a pleasing sightF
Of our Almighty Father's throneG
There sits our Savior crowned with lightF
Clothed in a body like our ownG
-
Adoring saints around him standH
And thrones and powers before him fallI
The God shines gracious through the manJ
And sheds sweet glories on them allI
-
O what amazing joys they feelK
While to their golden harps they singL
And sit on every heav'nly hillM
And spread the triumphs of their KingL
-
When shall the day dear Lord appearN
That I shall mount to dwell aboveB
And stand and bow amongst them thereO
And view thy face and sing and loveB
