Hymn 22 Part 2 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDCD EFGF HIHI JKLK MNMN LOPQ

Flesh and spiritA
-
RomB
-
What vain desires and passions vainC
Attend this mortal clayD
Oft have they pierced my soul with painC
And drawn my heart astrayD
-
How have I wandered from my GodE
And following sin and shameF
In this vile world of flesh and bloodG
Defiled my nobler frameF
-
For ever blessed be thy graceH
That formed my soul anewI
And made it of a heav'n born raceH
Thy glory to pursueI
-
My spirit holds perpetual warJ
And wrestles and complainsK
But views the happy moment nearL
That shall dissolve its chainsK
-
Cheerful in death I close my eyesM
To part with every lustN
And charge my flesh whene'er it riseM
To leave them in the dustN
-
My purer spirit shall not fearL
To put this body onO
Its tempting powers no more are thereP
Its lusts and passions goneQ
