The Divine PerfectionsA
-
Great God thy glories shall employB
My holy fear my humble joyB
My lips in songs of honor bringC
Their tribute to th' eternal KingC
-
Earth and the stars and worlds unknownD
Depend precarious on his throneD
All nature hangs upon his wordE
And grace and glory own their LordF
-
His sovereign power what mortal knowsA
If be command who dares opposeA
With strength he girds himself aroundG
And treads the rebels to the groundG
-
Who shall pretend to teach him skillH
Or guide the counsels of his willH
His wisdom like a sea divineI
Flows deep and high beyond our lineI
-
His name is holy and his eyeJ
Burns with immortal jealousyA
He hates the sons of pride and shedsA
His fiery vengeance on their headsA
-
The beaming of his piercing sightK
Bring dark hypocrisy to lightK
Death and destruction naked lieJ
And hell uncovered to his eyeJ
-
Th' eternal law before him standsA
His justice with impartial handsA
Divides to all their due rewardF
Or by the sceptre or the swordF
-
His mercy like a boundless seaA
Washes our load of guilt awayL
While his own Son came down and diedM
T' engage his justice on our sideM
-
Each of his words demands my faithN
My soul can rest on all he saithN
His truth inviolably keepsA
The largest promise of his lipsA
-
O tell me with a gentle voiceA
Thou art my God and I'll rejoiceA
Filled with thy love I dare proclaimO
The brightest honors of thy nameO
