Hymn 163 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDC EFGF HIJI KLKM NOPO DQRQ

Complaint of desertion and temptationsA
-
Dear Lord behold our sore distressB
Our sins attempt to reignC
Stretch out thine arm of conquering graceD
And let thy foes be slainC
-
The lion with his dreadful roarE
Affrights thy feeble sheepF
Reveal the glory of thy powerG
And chain him to the deepF
-
Must we indulge a long despairH
Shall our petitions dieI
Our mourning's never reach thine earJ
Nor tears affect thine eyeI
-
If thou despise a mortal groanK
Yet hear a Savior's bloodL
An Advocate so near the throneK
Pleads and prevails with GodM
-
He brought the Spirit's powerful swordN
To slay our deadly foesO
Our sins shall die beneath thy wordP
And hell in vain opposeO
-
How boundless is our Father's graceD
In height and depth and lengthQ
He makes his Son our righteousnessR
His Spirit is our strengthQ
