Hymn 159 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A ABAB CDED FAGH IHJH KLKL MNMN

An unconverted state or Converting graceA
-
Great King of glory and of graceA
We own with humble shameB
How vile is our degen'rate raceA
And our first father's nameB
-
From Adam flows our tainted bloodC
The poison reigns withinD
Makes us averse to all that's goodE
And willing slaves to sinD
-
Daily we break thy holy lawsF
And then reject thy graceA
Engaged in the old serpent's causeG
Against our Maker's face lH
-
We live estranged afar from GodI
And love the distance wellH
With haste we run the dangerous roadJ
That leads to death and hellH
-
And can such rebels be restoredK
Such natures made divineL
Let sinners see thy glory LordK
And feel this power of thineL
-
We raise our Fathers name on highM
Who his own Spirit sendsN
To bring rebellious strangers nighM
And turn his foes to friendsN
