Hymn 157 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDC EFEF FGFG HIJI

Satan's devicesA
-
Now Satan comes with dreadful roarB
And threatens to destroyC
He worries whom he can't devourD
With a malicious joyC
-
Ye sons of God oppose his rageE
Resist and he'll begoneF
Thus did our dearest Lord engageE
And vanquish him aloneF
-
Now he appears almost divineF
Like innocence and loveG
But the old serpent lurks withinF
When he assumes the doveG
-
Fly from the false deceiver's tongueH
Ye sons of Adam flyI
Our parents found the snare too strongJ
Nor should the children tryI
