Hymn 147 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDE FGHI DDJK LMNN OPQR SSTU VVLM

The names and titles of Christ From several scripturesA
-
'Tis from the treasures of his wordB
I borrow titles for my LordC
Nor art nor nature can supplyD
Sufficient forms of majestyE
-
Bright image of the Father's faceF
Shining with undiminished raysG
Th' eternal God's eternal SonH
The heir and partner of his throneI
-
The King of kings the Lord most highD
Writes his own name upon his thighD
He wears a garment dipped in bloodJ
And breaks the nations with his rodK
-
Where grace can neither melt nor moveL
The Lamb resents his injured loveM
Awakes his wrath without delayN
And Judah's Lion tears the preyN
-
But when for works of peace he comesO
What winning titles he assumesP
Light of the world and Life of menQ
Nor bears those characters in vainR
-
With tender pity in his heartS
He acts the Mediator's partS
A Friend and Brother he appearsT
And well fulfils the names he wearsU
-
At length the Judge his throne ascendsV
Divides the rebels from his friendsV
And saints in full fruition proveL
His rich variety of loveM
