Characters of the children of God From several scripturesA
-
So new born babes desire the breastB
To feed and grow and thriveC
So saints with joy the gospel tasteD
And by the gospel liveC
-
With inward gust their heart approvesE
All that the word relatesF
They love the men their Father lovesG
And hate the works he hatesF
-
Not all the flatt'ring baits on earthH
Can make them slaves to lustI
They can't forget their heav'nly birthH
Nor grovel in the dustI
-
Not all the chains that tyrants useJ
Shall bind their souls to viceK
Faith like a conqueror can produceJ
A thousand victoriesL
-
Grace like an uncorrupting seedM
Abides and reigns withinN
Immortal principles forbidO
The sons of God to sinN
-
Not by the terrors of a slaveP
Do they perform his willQ
But with the noblest powers they haveR
His sweet commands fulfilQ
-
They find access at every hourS
To God within the veilQ
Hence they derive a quick'ning powerS
And joys that never failQ
-
O happy souls O glorious stateT
Of overflowing graceU
To dwell so near their Father's seatV
And see his lovely faceU
-
Lord I address thy heav'nly throneW
Call me a child of thineX
Send down the Spirit of thy SonY
To form my heart divineX
-
There shed thy choicest loves abroadZ
And make my comforts strongA2
Then shall I say My Father GodB2
With an unwav'ring tongueC2
