Hymn 142 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDCE FGHI JKLM NCNC IOPQ RSRS

The humiliation and exaltation of ChristA
-
IsaB
-
Like sheep we went astrayC
And broke the fold of GodD
Each wand'ring in a diff'rent wayC
But all the downward roadE
-
How dreadful was the hourF
When God our wand'rings laidG
And did at once his vengeance pourH
Upon the Shepherd's headI
-
How glorious was the graceJ
When Christ sustained the strokeK
His life and blood the Shepherd paysL
A ransom for the flockM
-
His honor and his breathN
Were taken both awayC
Joined with the wicked in his deathN
And made as vile as theyC
-
But God shall raise his headI
O'er all the sons of menO
And make him see a num'rous seedP
To recompense his painQ
-
I'll give him saith the LordR
A portion with the strongS
He shall possess a large rewardR
And hold his honors longS
