Hymn 115 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDAD EFEG HAIA JKLM NOPQ RSRS

Conviction of sin by the lawA
-
RomB
-
Lord how secure my conscience wasC
And felt no inward dreadD
I was alive without the lawA
And thought my sins were deadD
-
My hopes of heav'n were firm and brightE
But since the precept cameF
With a convincing power and lightE
I find how vile I amG
-
My guilt appeared but small beforeH
Till terribly I sawA
How perfect holy just and pureI
Was thine eternal lawA
-
Then felt my soul the heavy loadJ
My sins revived againK
I had provoked a dreadful GodL
And all my hopes were slainM
-
I'm like a helpless captive soldN
Under the power of sinO
I cannot do the good I wouldP
Nor keep my conscience cleanQ
-
My God I cry with every breathR
For some kind power to saveS
To break the yoke of sin and deathR
And thus redeem the slaveS
