Hymn 11 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDEF GHIJ KLMN OPQP NRST EFUF

The humble enlightened and carnal reason humbledA
-
LukeB
-
There was an hour when Christ rejoicedC
And spoke his joy in words of praiseD
Father I thank thee mighty GodE
Lord of the earth and heav'ns and seasF
-
I thank thy sovereign power and loveG
That crowns my doctrine with successH
And makes the babes in knowledge learnI
The heights and breadths and lengths of graceJ
-
But all this glory lies concealedK
From men of prudence and of witL
The prince of darkness blinds their eyesM
And their own pride resists the lightN
-
Father 'tis thus because thy willO
Chose and ordained it should be soP
'Tis thy delight t' abase the proudQ
And lay the haughty scorner lowP
-
There's none can know the Father rightN
But those who learn it from the SonR
Nor can the Son be well receivedS
But where the Father makes him knownT
-
Then let our souls adore our GodE
Who deals his graces as he pleaseF
Nor gives to mortals an accountU
Or of his actions or decreesF
