What blest examples do I findA
Writ in the Word of TruthB
Of children that began to mindA
Religion in their youthB
-
Jesus who reigns above the skyC
And keeps the world in aweD
Was once a child as young as IC
And kept His Father's lawE
-
At twelve years old he talked with menF
The Jews all wondering standG
Yet He obeyed his Mother thenF
And came at her commandG
-
Children a sweet hosanna sungH
And blest their Savior's nameI
They gave Him honor with their tongueH
While scribes and priests blasphemeI
-
Samuel the child was weaned and broughtJ
To wait upon the LordK
Young Timothy betimes was taughtJ
To know his holy WordL
-
Then why should I so long delayM
What others learnt so soonN
I would not pass another dayM
Without this work begunO
