Cradle Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BBBB BCBC DEDE FGFG HBHB ABAB FIFI JAKL

Hush my dear lie still and slumberA
Holy angels guard thy bedB
Heavenly blessings without numberA
Gently falling on thy headB
-
Sleep my babe thy food and raimentB
House and home thy friends provideB
All without thy care or paymentB
All thy wants are well suppliedB
-
How much better thou'rt attendedB
Than the Son of God could beC
When from heaven He descendedB
And became a child like theeC
-
Soft and easy is thy cradleD
Coarse and hard thy Saviour layE
When His birthplace was a stableD
And His softest bed was hayE
-
See the kindly shepherds round himF
Telling wonders from the skyG
When they sought Him there they found HimF
With his Virgin Mother byG
-
See the lovely babe a dressingH
Lovely infant how He smiledB
When He wept the mother's blessingH
Soothed and hushed the holy childB
-
Lo He slumbers in His mangerA
Where the honest oxen fedB
Peace my darling here's no dangerA
Here's no ox a near thy bedB
-
Mayst thou live to know and fear HimF
Trust and love Him all thy daysI
Then go dwell forever near HimF
See His face and sing His praiseI
-
I could give thee thousand kissesJ
Hoping what I most desireA
Not a mother's fondest wishesK
Can to greater joys aspireL
