| Below the waiting legions lie and listen | A |
| To us who march upon their burial ground | B |

| The guns will flash and thunder o er the grave | D |
| What other winding sheet should now array him | C |
| What other music should salute the brave | D |

| As goes the Sun god in his chariot glorious | E |

| So goes the soldier fallen but victorious | E |
| And leaves behind a twilight in the world | F |
