And now the water holds but empty skies | C |
Through which the rivers of the thunder flow | B |

The church lies broken near the fallen spire | D |
For here among these old and human things | E |
Death sweeps along the street with feet of fire | F |
And goes upon his way with moaning wings | E |
- | |
On pavements by the kneeling herdsmen worn | G |
The drifting fleeces of the shells are rolled | H |
Above the Saints a village Christ forlorn | G |
Wounded again looks down upon his fold | H |
- | |
And silence follows fast no evening peace | I |
But leaden stillness when the thunder wanes | J |
Haunting the slender branches of the trees | A |
And settling low upon the listless plains | J |
