The Last Despatch. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHIIH JHIKH LLLLL LMHHM BLNNL OHPPH QICCI CHCCH

Hurrah the Season's past at lastA
At length we've done our pleasureB
Dear Pater if you only knewC
How much I've longed for home and youC
Our own green lawn and leisureB
-
And then the pets One half forgetsD
The dear dumb friends in BabelE
I hope my special fish is fedF
I long to see poor Nigra's headF
Pushed at me from the stableE
-
I long to see the cob and RobG
Old Bevis and the CollieH
And won't we read in Traveller's RestI
Home readings after all are bestI
None else seem half so jollyH
-
One misses your dear kindly storeJ
Of fancies quaint and funnyH
One misses too your kind bon motI
The Mayfair wit I mostly knowK
Has more of gall than honeyH
-
How tired one grows of calls and ballsL
This toujours perdrix weariesL
I'm longing quite for Notes on KnoxL
Apropos I've the loveliest boxL
For holding Notes and QueriesL
-
A change of place would suit my caseL
You'll take me on probationM
As Lady help then let it beH
I feel as Lavender shall seeH
That Jams are my vocationM
-
How's Lavender My love to herB
Does Briggs still flirt with FlowersL
Has Hawthorn stubbed the common clearN
You'll let me give some picnics DearN
And ask the Vanes and TowersL
-
I met Belle Vane HE'S still in SpainO
Sir John won't let them marryH
Aunt drove the boys to Brompton RinkP
And Charley changing Charley thinkP
Is now au mieux with CarryH
-
And NO You know what No I meanQ
There's no one yet at presentI
The Benedick I have in viewC
Must be a something wholly newC
One's father's far too pleasantI
-
So hey I say for home and youC
Good by to PiccadillyH
Balls beaux and Bolton row adieuC
Expect me Dear at half past twoC
Till then your Own Fond MILLYH
