Palomydes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABA CACAC DEDED AFAFF GFGFG

Him best in all the dim ArthuriadA
Of lovers of fair women him I prizeB
The Pagan Palomydes Never gladA
Was he with sweetness of his lady's eyesB
Nor joy he hadA
-
But unloved ever still must love the sameC
And riding ever through a lonely worldA
Whene'er on adverse shield or crest he cameC
Against the danger desperately hurledA
Crying her nameC
-
So I who strove to You I may not earnD
Methinks am come unto so high a placeE
That though from hence I can but vainly yearnD
For that averted favour of your faceE
I shall not turnD
-
No I am come too high Whate'er betideA
To find the doubtful thing that fights with meF
Toward the mountain tops I still shall rideA
And cry your name in my extremityF
As PalomydeF
-
Until the issue come Will it discloseG
No gift of grace no pity made completeF
After much labour done much war with woesG
Will you deny me still in Heaven my sweetF
Ah Death who knowsG
