Daisy's Valentines. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCB DEDEFFFE GHGHAAAH IHIHAAAJ KEKELLLE MEMENNNEAll night through Daisy's sleep it seems | A |
Have ceaseless rat tats thundered | B |
All night through Daisy's rosy dreams | A |
Have devious Postmen blundered | B |
Delivering letters round her bed | C |
Mysterious missives sealed with red | C |
And franked of course with due Queen's head | C |
While Daisy lay and wondered | B |
- | |
But now when chirping birds begin | D |
And Day puts off the Quaker | E |
When Cook renews her morning din | D |
And rates the cheerful baker | E |
She dreams her dream no dream at all | F |
For just as pigeons come at call | F |
Winged letters flutter down and fall | F |
Around her head and wake her | E |
- | |
Yes there they are With quirk and twist | G |
And fraudful arts directed | H |
Save Grandpapa's dear stiff old fist | G |
Through all disguise detected | H |
But which is his her young Lothair's | A |
Who wooed her on the school room stairs | A |
With three sweet cakes and two ripe pears | A |
In one neat pile collected | H |
- | |
'Tis there be sure Though truth to speak | I |
If truth may be permitted | H |
I doubt that young gift bearing Greek | I |
Is scarce for fealty fitted | H |
For has he not I grieve to say | A |
To two loves more on this same day | A |
In just this same emblazoned way | A |
His transient vows transmitted | J |
- | |
He may be true Yet Daisy dear | K |
That even youth grows colder | E |
You'll find is no new thing I fear | K |
And when you're somewhat older | E |
You'll read of one Dardanian boy | L |
Who wooed with gifts a maiden coy | L |
Then took the morning train to Troy | L |
In spite of all he'd told her | E |
- | |
But wait Your time will come And then | M |
Obliging Fates please send her | E |
The bravest thing you have in men | M |
Sound hearted strong and tender | E |
The kind of man dear Fates you know | N |
That feels how shyly Daisies grow | N |
And what soft things they are and so | N |
Will spare to spoil or mend her | E |
