At The Convent Gate. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFFE GGHIIH JJKLLM NNOPPO QQBRRB

Wistaria blossoms trail and fallA
Above the length of barrier wallA
And softly now and thenB
The shy staid breasted doves will flitC
From roof to gateway top and sitC
And watch the ways of menB
-
The gate's ajar If one might peepD
Ah what a haunt of rest and sleepD
The shadowy garden seemsE
And note how dimly to and froF
The grave gray hooded Sisters goF
Like figures seen in dreamsE
-
Look there is one that tells her beadsG
And yonder one apart that readsG
A tiny missal's pageH
And see beside the well the twoI
That kneeling strive to lure anewI
The magpie to its cageH
-
Not beautiful not all But eachJ
With that mild grace outlying speechJ
Which comes of even moodK
The Veil unseen that women wearL
With heart whole thought and quiet careL
And hope of higher goodM
-
A placid life a peaceful lifeN
What need to these the name of WifeN
What gentler task I saidO
What worthier e'en your arts amongP
Than tend the sick and teach the youngP
And give the hungry breadO
-
No worthier task re echoes SheQ
Who closelier clinging turns with meQ
To face the road againB
And yet in that warm heart of hersR
She means the doves' for she prefersR
To watch the ways of menB
