Should you wish to know the SourceA
From which your brothers drewB
Their strength of soulC
Their comfort courage patience trustD
And iron might to bear their hardshipsE
And suffer without end or measureF
-
And should you wish to see the FortG
Wherein your fathers refuge soughtH
And all their sacred teasures hidI
The refuge that has still preservedJ
Your nation's soul intact and pureK
And when despised and scorned and scoffedL
Their faith they did not shameM
-
And should you wish to see and knowN
Their Mother faithful loving kindO
Who sheltered them and shielded themP
And lulled them on her lap to sleepQ
-
If you my brother know notR
Then enter now the House of GodS
The House of study old and grayT
Throughout the scorching summer daysU
Thoughout the gloomy winter nightsV
At morning midday or at eveW
And there you may still beholdX
A group of Jews from the exile who bore the yoke of its burden who forget their toilY
through a worn out page of the TalmudZ
-
And then your heart shall guess the truthA2
That you have touched the sacred groundB2
Of a great people's house of lifeC2
And that your eys do gaze uponD2
The treasure of a nation's soulC
