Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEF GEH HIJ KLM KNO GJH HHP EGE

Helen herself seems almost ready for this sacrificeA
at least for the immolation ofB
herself before this greatest love of AchillesC
-
his dedication to his own ship and theD
figurehead an idol or eidolonE
a mermaid Thetis upon the prowF
-
Did her eyes slant in the old wayG
was she Greek or EgyptianE
had some Phoenician sailor wrought herH
-
was she oak wood or cedarH
had she been cut from an awkward blockI
of ship wood at the ship buildersJ
-
and afterwards riveted thereK
or had the prow itself been shapedL
to her mermaid bodyM
-
curved to her mermaid hairK
was there a dash of paintN
in the beginning in the garment foldO
-
did the blue afterwards wear awayG
did they re touch her arms her shouldersJ
did anyone touch her everH
-
Had she other zealot and loverH
or did he alone worship herH
did she wear a girdle of sea weedP
-
or a painted crown how oftenE
did her high breasts meet the sprayG
how often dive downE
