When I Was Younger Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEA FGDHI JAKLMNOP QNRQST LUQVVWX

When I was youngerA
I asked too muchB
Everlasting friendshipC
Endless feelingD
More than hearts could ever holdE
More than hands could ever offerA
-
I sought eternity in fleeting smilesF
Depth in shallow tidesG
And in my yearningD
I built a world too heavyH
For fragile souls to bearI
-
But timeJ
That patient teacherA
Whispered wisdom into my restless heartK
Now I ask for lessL
A simple wordM
A steady glanceN
Companionship that walksO
Not soars beyond its reachP
-
Their feelings their kindnessQ
A touch a glanceN
These quiet gifts once overlookedR
Now seem miraculousQ
A grace undeservedS
A blessing freely givenT
-
In learning to ask lessL
I have received moreU
Not forever not boundlessQ
But enoughV
And in enoughV
I have foundW
The miracle of loveX
