To Serve Is To Reign Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EE FFGGHIJJ KK LLMMNNOO PQ RRBBSTUU

A king may wear a golden crownA
His word may never be cast downA
But if his people weep in painB
His power crumbles like the rainB
A slave may bow and bear the yokeC
His back may break with every strokeC
Yet if his hands bring others peaceD
He plants the seed for true releaseD
-
A crown is just a hat that lets the rain inE
But calloused hands can shape the world withinE
-
What is a throne without the landF
What is a law without the handF
That lifts the fallen from the groundG
Not just the voice but the surroundG
The sun shines down on both alikeH
No rank can hide from morning lightI
To rule is not to stand aboveJ
But bend the knee in truth and loveJ
-
He who leads without serving merely reigns without meaningK
Even the tallest tree was once a seedlingK
-
A soldier fights a farmer toilsL
A mother bleeds the wise man spoilsL
His sleep to heal a shattered heartM
Each plays a humble vital partM
So kings and slaves and all betweenN
Are actors in the same vast sceneN
The difference lies not in the nameO
But how we bear the human flameO
-
Service is the rent we pay for living on this earthP
The road to greatness is paved with serviceQ
-
Let not the robe deceive your soulR
Nor ragged cloth conceal the wholeR
From palace wall to prison chainB
The highest call is clear and plainB
To live is more than just to breatheS
To serve is more than to achieveT
For in the end when pride is pastU
The servant s love alone will lastU
