The Price Of Emptiness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII JKLML

We live in a world where gold tips the scaleA
Where the worth of a man is the size of his saleA
The wedding is grand the feast for the eyeB
But love s quieter hidden left withering to dieB
-
The funeral procession is long dressed in blackC
They honor the casket not the life that it lackedD
The dead are a whisper beneath polished woodE
Yet the price of the burial oh that was goodE
-
We praise the containers the glittering showF
But the heart that beats within We hardly knowF
The mind that could spark a world newly bornG
Is cast to the shadows ignored and forlornG
-
It s profit that matters not wisdom or graceH
The shape of the surface the mask on the faceH
We feed the body we starve the soulI
The spirit of man plays a secondary roleI
-
For intellect is free but a meal has a costJ
And in this culture of wealth the true self is lostK
We worship the shine the glamour the glossL
But it s the content not the containerM
That pays the greatest lossL
