When you told them to kill him because he stole your moneyA
Were you not a judgeB
Even if you sought beating for his crimeC
Has judgment not already taken placeD
-
When you whispered behind closed doorsE
Declaring her ruined for loving the wrong manF
Did you not wear the robe of justiceG
Did you not weigh her worth with your wordsH
-
When you turned your back on the beggarI
Scoffing that he should have worked harderI
Were you not the hand that passed the sentenceJ
As if fate were yours to commandK
-
When you laughed at the man who lost his wayL
Saying he should have known betterI
Did you not already etch his punishmentM
In the courtroom of your heartN
-
When you denied forgiveness to an old friendO
Who stumbled on the jagged road of lifeP
Were you not the jury the executionerI
Striking the gavel with silent prideQ
-
We have judged and been judgedR
In whispers in glances in cold refusalsS
We have built our own tribunalsS
And filled them with our fears and faultsT
-
Judgment Day was yesterdayL
And the day before and every day since birthU
Why wait for skies to split and trumpets to soundV
When justice has long been our own burdenW
-
Look into your mirror my friendO
See the scars you left on others' soulsX
Do not ask when judgment shall comeY
It lives within the choices we makeZ
-
Perhaps the heavens will remain silentM
For judgment was never theirs to wieldA2
We are both sinner and saintB2
Condemned by the justice of our own handsC2
