From The Choking Vines Of National Greed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEEE CCFFGG DDHHFF IJKKCC

Our land is green yet tainted with weedsA
A garden overrun with selfish deedsA
From roots of promise greed takes its holdB
Turning dreams to ashes hearts to coldB
The harvest once meant for the nation's needC
Now lines the coffers of insatiable greedC
-
We light no lamps the grid lies bareD
Its pulse falters in the poisoned airD
I paid your passage bought your reignE
Anointed the crown to shield my gainE
While voices cry beneath the strainE
My triumph echoes through their painE
-
Power flows not to heal or feedC
But to serve the thirst of unchecked greedC
Promises like clouds drift and fadeF
Shadows linger where hope was laidF
Yet as E dey pain them my laughter growsG
A bitter chorus the nation knowsG
-
The soil bleeds wealth yet it seeds despairD
As riches climb the poor breathe thin airD
What binds the land once strong and freeH
Is now the chain of hypocrisyH
The anthem rings of truth betrayedF
In every verse the heart decayedF
-
Still the winds of change whisper nearI
A storm to cleanse a voice to hearJ
For even empires built on liesK
Will crumble beneath awakened criesK
The land though green yearns to be freedC
From the choking vines of national greedC

Poet's note: This poem was motivated from the repeated fall of the national grid in Nigeria. I use it to point out that the issue with Nigeria is greed. The challenges we suffer in Nigeria cause by nothing than selfishness.
