Tobacco Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC AADC EFEC GGHC IIJC

The Indian weed withered quiteA
Green at noon cut down at nightA
Shows thy decay all flesh is hayB
Thus thinke then drinke tobaccoC
-
The pipe that is so lily whiteA
Shows thee to be a mortal wightA
And even such gone with a touchD
Thus thinke then drinke tobaccoC
-
And when the smoke ascends on highE
Thinke thou beholdest the vanityF
Of worldly stuffe gone with a puffeE
Thus thinke then drinke tobaccoC
-
And when the pipe grows foul withinG
Think on thy soule defil'd with sinG
And then the fire it doth requireH
Thus thinke then drinke tobaccoC
-
The ashes that are left behindI
May serve to put thee still in mindI
That unto dust return thou mustJ
Thus thinke then drinke tobaccoC
