The Virtuous Man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDBEFEGHGHIJIJ

Thus fears the man whom virtue beacon likeA
Hath fix'd upon the hills of eminenceB
At him the tempests of mad envy strikeA
And rage against his piles of innocenceB
But still the more they wrong him and the moreC
They seek to keep his worth from being knownD
They daily make it greater than beforeC
And cause his fame the further to be blownD
When therefore no self doting arroganceB
But virtues cover'd with a modest veilE
Break through obscurity and thee advanceF
To place where envy shall thy worth assailE
Discourage not thyself but stand the shocksG
Of wrath and fury Let them snarl and biteH
Pursue thee with detraction slander mocksG
And all the venom'd engines of despightH
Thou art above the malice and the blazeI
Of thy celestial fire shall shine so clearJ
That their besotted souls thou shalt amazeI
And make thy splendours to their shame appearJ
