From A Satire Written To King James I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGH

Did I not know a great man's power and mightA
In spite of innocence can smother rightA
Colour his villainies to get esteemB
And make the honest man the villain seemB
I know it and the world doth know 'tis trueC
Yet I protest if such a man I knewC
That might my country prejudice or theeD
Were he the greatest or the proudest heD
That breathes this day if so it might be foundE
That any good to either might redoundE
I unappalled dare in such a caseF
Rip up his foulest crimes before his faceF
Though for my labour I were sure to dropG
Into the mouth of ruin without hopeH
