The Wisdom Of Eld Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCEDE

We spend our lives in learning pilotageA
And grow good steersmen when the vessel's crankB
Gap toothed he spake and with a tottering shankB
Sidled to gain the sunny bench of AgeA
It is the sentence which completes that stageA
A testament of wisdom reading blankB
The seniors of the race on their last plankB
Pass mumbling it as nature's final pageA
These bent by such experience are the bandC
Who captain young enthusiasts to maintainD
What things we view and Earth's decree withstandC
Lest dreaded Change long dammed by dull decayE
Should bring the world a vessel steered by brainD
And ancients musical at close of dayE
