The Meeting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GAHA IJIJ

The old coach road through a common of furzeA
With knolls of pine ran whiteB
Berries of autumn with thistles and burrsA
And spider threads droop'd in the lightB
-
The light in a thin blue veil peered sickC
The sheep grazed close and stillD
The smoke of a farm by a yellow rickC
Curled lazily under a hillD
-
No fly shook the round of the silver netE
No insect the swift bird chasedF
Only two travellers moved and metE
Across that hazy wasteF
-
One was a girl with a babe that throveG
Her ruin and her blissA
One was a youth with a lawless loveH
Who clasped it the more for thisA
-
The girl for her babe hummed prayerful speechI
The youth for his love did prayJ
Each cast a wistful look on eachI
And either went their wayJ
