The Crisis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ KKLMNNAAOOOOPPQQRRSS OOTTOOOO

Spirit of Russia now has comeA
The day when thou canst not be dumbA
Around thee foams the torrent tideB
Above thee its fell fountain PrideB
The senseless rock awaits thy wordC
To crumble shall it be unheardC
Already like a tempest sunD
That shoots the flare and shuts to dunD
Thy land 'twixt flame and darkness heavesE
Showing the blade wherewith Fate cleavesE
If mortals in high courage failF
At the one breath before the galeF
Those rulers in all forms of lustG
Who trod thy children down to dustG
On the red Sunday know right wellH
What word for them thy voice would spellH
What quick perdition for them weaveI
Did they in such a voice believeI
Not thine to raise the avenger's shriekJ
Nor turn to them a Tolstoi cheekJ
Nor menace him the waverer stillK
Man of much heart and little willK
The criminal of his high seatL
Whose plea of Guiltless judges itM
For him thy voice shall bring to handN
Salvation and to thy torn landN
Seen on the breakers Now has comeA
The day when thou canst not be dumbA
Spirit of Russia those who bindO
Thy limbs and iron cap thy mindO
Take thee for quaking flesh misdoubtO
That thou art of the rabble routO
Which cries and flees with whimpering lipP
From reckless gun and brutal whipP
But he who has at heart the deedsQ
Of thy heroic offspring readsQ
In them a soul not given to shrinkR
From peril on the abyss's brinkR
With never dread of murderous powerS
With view beyond the crimson hourS
Neither an instinct driven mightO
Nor visionary eruditeO
A soul that art thou It remainsT
For thee to stay thy children's veinsT
The countertides of hate arrestO
Give to thy sons a breathing breastO
And Him resembling in His sightO
Say to thy land Let there be LightO
