On Como Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCBDED EFBFBBGBGBHBHBBBB

A rainless darkness drew o'er the lakeA
As we lay in our boat with oars unshippedB
It seemed neither cloud nor water awakeA
And forth of the low black curtain slippedB
Thunderless lightning Scoff no moreC
At angels imagined in downward flightB
For the daughters of earth as fabled of yoreC
Here was beauty might well inviteB
Dark heavens to gleam with the fire of a sunD
Resurgent here the exchanged embraceE
Worthy of heaven and earth made oneD
-
And witness it ye of the privileged spaceE
Said the flash and the mountains as from an abyssF
For quivering seconds leaped up to attestB
That given received renewed was the kissF
The lips to lips and the breast to breastB
All in a glory of ecstasy swiftB
As an eagle at prey and pure as the prayerG
Of an infant bidden joined hands upliftB
To be guarded through darkness by spirits of airG
Ere setting the sails of sleep till dayB
Slowly the low cloud swung and farH
It panted along its mirrored wayB
Above loose threads one sanctioning starH
The wonder of what had been witnessed sealedB
And with me still as in crystal glassedB
Are the depths alight the heavens revealedB
Where on to the Alps the muteness passedB
