The song of gladness one straight bolt can check | B |
But I have never stood at Fortune's beck | B |
Were she and her light crew to run atilt | A |
At my poor holding little would be spilt | A |
Small were the praise for singing o'er that wreck | B |
Who courts her dooms to strife his bended neck | B |
He grasps a blade not always by the hilt | A |
Nathless she strikes at random can be fell | C |
With other than those votaries she deals | D |
The black or brilliant from her thunder rift | A |
I say but that this love of Earth reveals | D |
A soul beside our own to quicken quell | C |
Irradiate and through ruinous floods uplift | A |
