Modern Love Xxxi: This Golden Head Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDEEDFGGFHIJH

This golden head has wit in it I liveA
Again and a far higher life near herB
Some women like a young philosopherB
Perchance because he is diminutiveC
For woman's manly god must not exceedD
Proportions of the natural nursing sizeE
Great poets and great sages draw no prizeE
With women but the little lap dog breedD
Who can be hugged or on a mantel pieceF
Perched up for adoration these obtainG
Her homage And of this we men are vainG
Of this 'Tis ordered for the world's increaseF
Small flattery Yet she has that rare giftH
To beauty Common Sense I am approvedI
It is not half so nice as being lovedJ
And yet I do prefer it What's my driftH
