Modern Love Xxx: What Are We First Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEGHHG

What are we first First animals and nextA
Intelligences at a leap on whomB
Pale lies the distant shadow of the tombB
And all that draweth on the tomb for textA
Into which state comes Love the crowning sunC
Beneath whose light the shadow loses formD
We are the lords of life and life is warmD
Intelligence and instinct now are oneC
But nature says 'My children most they seemE
When they least know me therefore I decreeF
That they shall suffer ' Swift doth young Love fleeF
And we stand wakened shivering from our dreamE
Then if we study Nature we are wiseG
Thus do the few who live but with the dayH
The scientific animals are theyH
Lady this is my sonnet to your eyesG
