Modern Love Xxvi: Love Ere He Bleeds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEGFFG

Love ere he bleeds an eagle in high skiesA
Has earth beneath his wings from reddened eveB
He views the rosy dawn In vain they weaveB
The fatal web below while far he fliesA
But when the arrow strikes him there's a changeC
He moves but in the track of his spent painD
Whose red drops are the links of a harsh chainD
Binding him to the ground with narrow rangeC
A subtle serpent then has Love becomeE
I had the eagle in my bosom erstF
Henceforward with the serpent I am cursedF
I can interpret where the mouth is dumbE
Speak and I see the side lie of a truthG
Perchance my heart may pardon you this deedF
But be no coward you that made Love bleedF
You must bear all the venom of his toothG
