Modern Love Xii: Not Solely That The Future Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEGHHG

Not solely that the Future she destroysA
And the fair life which in the distance liesB
For all men beckoning out from dim rich skiesB
Nor that the passing hour's supporting joysA
Have lost the keen edged flavour which begatC
Distinction in old times and still should breedD
Sweet Memory and Hope earth's modest seedD
And heaven's high prompting not that the world is flatC
Since that soft luring creature I embracedE
Among the children of Illusion wentF
Methinks with all this loss I were contentF
If the mad Past on which my foot is basedE
Were firm or might be blotted but the wholeG
Of life is mixed the mocking Past will stayH
And if I drink oblivion of a dayH
So shorten I the stature of my soulG
