John Lackland Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDECFGGFHH

A wicked man is bad enough on earthA
But O the baleful lustre of a chiefB
Once pledged in tyranny O star of dearthA
Darkly illumining a nation's griefB
How many men have worn thee on their browsC
Alas for them and us God's precious giftD
Of gracious dispensation got by theftE
The damning form of false unholy vowsC
The thief of God and man must have his feeF
And thou John Lackland despicable princeG
Basest of England's banes before or sinceG
Thrice traitor coward thief O thou shalt beF
The historic warning trampled and abhorr'dH
Who dared to steal and stain the symbols of the LordH
