Zacchaeus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JKJK LMLN OPOP

To whom the heavy burden clingsA
It yet may serve him like a staffB
One day the cross will break in wingsA
The sinner laugh a holy laughB
-
The dwarfed Zacchaeus climbed a treeC
His humble stature set him highD
The Lord the little man did seeC
Who sought the great man passing byD
-
Up to the tree he came and stoppedE
To day he said with thee I bideF
A spirit shaken fruit he droppedE
Ripe for the Master at his sideF
-
Sure never host with gladder lookG
A welcome guest home with him boreH
Then rose the Satan of rebukeI
And loudly spake beside the doorH
-
This is no place for holy feetJ
Sinners should house and eat aloneK
This man sits in the stranger's seatJ
And grinds the faces of his ownK
-
Outspoke the man in Truth's own mightL
Lord half my goods I give the poorM
If one I've taken more than rightL
With four I make atonement sureN
-
Salvation here is entered inO
This man indeed is Abraham's sonP
Said he who came the lost to winO
And saved the lost whom he had wonP
