IA
-
When in the mid sea of the nightB
I waken at thy call O LordC
The first that troop my bark aboardC
Are darksome imps that hate the lightB
Whose tongues are arrows eyes a blightB
Of wraths and cares a pirate hordeC
Though on the mid sea of the nightB
It was thy call that waked me LordC
-
Then I must to my arms and fightB
Catch up my shield and two edged swordC
The words of him who is thy wordD
Nor cease till they are put to flightB
Then in the mid sea of the nightB
I turn and listen for thee LordC
-
IIA
-
There comes no voice from thee O LordC
Across the mid sea of the nightB
I lift my voice and cry with mightB
If thou keep silent soon a hordeC
Of imps again will swarm aboardC
And I shall be in sorry plightB
If no voice come from thee my LordC
Across the mid sea of the nightB
-
There comes no voice I hear no wordD
But in my soul dawns something brightB
There is no sea no foe to fightB
Thy heart and mine beat one accordC
I need no voice from thee O LordC
Across the mid sea of the nightB
