Translations. - The Twelfth Psalm. (luther's Song-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCD EFEFGGH IJIJKLM NOPQRRR STSTRRM UBUBVVW

Ah God from heaven look down and viewA
Let it thy pity wakenB
Behold thy saints how very fewA
We wretches are forsakenB
Thy word they grant nor true nor rightC
And faith is thus extinguished quiteC
Among the sons of AdamD
-
They teach a cunning false and fineE
In their own wits they found itF
Their heart in one doth not combineE
Nor on God's word they ground itF
One chooses this the other thatG
Endless division they are atG
And yet they keep smooth facesH
-
God will outroot the teachers allI
Who with false shows present usJ
Besides their proud tongues loudly callI
Tush tush who can prevent usJ
We have the right and might in fullK
And what we say that is the ruleL
Who dares to give us lessonsM
-
Therefore saith God I must be upN
My poor ones ill are faringO
Their sighs crowd up to Zion's topP
My ear their cry is hearingQ
My wholesome word shall speedilyR
With comfort fill them fresh and freeR
And strength be to the needyR
-
Silver that seven times is triedS
With fire is found the purerT
God's word the same test must abideS
It still comes out the surerT
It shall by crosses proved beR
Men shall its power and glory seeR
Shine strong upon the nationsM
-
God will its purity defendU
From this ill generationB
Let us ourselves to thee commendU
Lest we fall from our stationB
The godless rout is all aroundV
Where these rude wanton ones are foundV
Against thy folk exaltedW
