Translations. - The Fourty-sixth Psalm. (luther's Song-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEFGH IJIKLMNNO PQRQKKKKH KKKKSSDTU

Our God he is a castle strongA
A good mail coat and weaponB
He sets us free from every wrongA
That wickedness would heap onC
The ancient wicked foeD
He means earnest nowE
Force and cunning slyF
His horrid policyG
On earth there's no one like himH
-
Our strength is vain do what we canI
Our hopes are soon dejectedJ
But He fights for us the right manI
By God himself electedK
Ask'st thou who is thisL
Jesus Christ it isM
He is the Lord of HostsN
In whom his people boastsN
And he must win the battleO
-
And did the world with devils swarmP
All gaping to devour usQ
We fear not from them the least harmR
Success lies sure before usQ
This world's prince accurstK
Let him rage his worstK
Only roars aboutK
His doom it is gone outK
A word can overthrow himH
-
The Word they'll have to let it bideK
Nor there claim any meritK
He is with us and on our sideK
With his own gifts and spiritK
Let them take our lifeS
Goods name child and wifeS
Everything may goD
To them it is no gainT
The kingdom ours remainethU
