Translations. - The Fourteenth Psalm. (luther's Song-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDE FGFGHHI JIKILLM NONOLPQ RIRISTU IJIJJJV

Although the fools say with their mouthA
Great God we magnify himB
Their heart cares nothing for the truthC
In action they deny himB
Their being is corrupted quiteD
To God it is a horrid sightD
Not one of them works goodnessE
-
From heaven God downward cast his eyeF
Upon men's sons so manyG
He set himself to look and spyF
If he could find out anyG
Who their own reason up had stirredH
Earnestly to obey God's wordH
After his will enquiringI
-
Upon the right path there was noneJ
From it they all were strayingI
Each followed fancies of his ownK
Them to ill deeds bewrayingI
Not one of them did good even onceL
Though many fooled by arroganceL
Thought God with them well pleasedM
-
How long by lies will they be ledN
Who vain attempts redoubleO
They eat my people up as breadN
And live upon their troubleO
In God stands not their confidenceL
From ill they ask not his defenceP
They would themselves look afterQ
-
Therefore their heart is never stillR
But always full of fearingI
Dwell with the good the Father willR
Those who have ears for hearingI
But ye despise the poor man's waysS
And scorn at everything he saysT
Concerning God his comfortU
-
Who will to Israel poor flockI
To Zion send salvationJ
God will take pity on his folkI
And free his captive nationJ
That will he do through Christ his SonJ
And then is Jacob's weeping doneJ
And Isr'el filled with gladness AmenV
