Translations. - Longing. (from Schiller.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FBFBFEFE FGFGHIHI FIFIHJHJ

Ah from out this valley hollowA
By cold fogs always oppressedB
Could I but the outpath followA
Ah how were my spirit blestB
Hills I see there glad dominionsC
Ever young and green for ayeD
Had I wings oh had I pinionsC
To the hills were I awayE
-
Harmonies I hear there ringingF
Tones of sweetest heavenly restB
And the gentle winds are bringingF
Balmy odours to my breastB
Golden fruits peep out there glowingF
Through the leaves to Zephyr's playE
And the flowers that there are blowingF
Will become no winter's preyE
-
Oh what happy things are meetingF
There in endless sunshine freeG
And the airs on those hills greetingF
How reviving must they beG
But me checks yon raving riverH
That betwixt doth chafe and rollI
And its dark waves rising everH
Strike a horror to my soulI
-
See a skiff on wild wave heavingF
But no sailor walks the moleI
Quick into it firm believingF
For its sails they have a soulI
Thou must trust nor wait to ponderH
God will give no pledge in handJ
Nought but miracle bears yonderH
To the lovely wonderlandJ
