Translations. - Dame Music. (luther's Song-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DDEEFG GBHHII JJDD KKEE LLMNOOPP QQEERRDD

Of all the joys earth possessesA
None the gladness fine surpassesB
Which I give you with my singingC
And with much harmonious ringingC
-
An evil spirit cannot dwellD
Where companions are singing wellD
Here strife wrath envy hate are notE
Every heartache must leave the spotE
Greed care all things that hard oppressF
Troop off with great unwillingnessG
-
Also each man is free to thisG
For such a joy no trespass isB
God himself pleasing better farH
Than all the joys on earth that areH
It breaks the toils by Satan spunI
And many a murder keeps undoneI
-
Of this King David is the proofJ
Who often Saul did hold aloofJ
All with his harping sweet and wellD
That he not into murder fellD
-
For God's own truth in word and willK
It makes the heart ready and stillK
That knew Elisha well I wotE
When he the Spirit by harping gotE
-
The best time of the year is mineL
When all the little birds sing fineL
Fill heaven and earth full of their strainM
Much good singing is going thenN
The nightingale the lead she takesO
And everything right merry makesO
With her gladsome lovely songP
For which great thanks to her belongP
-
But more to our dear Lord God muchQ
Who has created the bird suchQ
A songstress of the true right sortE
A mistress of the music artE
She sings and springs both nights and daysR
To him not weary of his praiseR
Him lauding come my songs as wellD
My everlasting thanks to tellD
