Translations. - Advent. (luther's Song-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEF AAGG AAHH AAIG JKLL MMNN OOAP

Come saviour of nations wildA
Of the maiden owned the childA
That may wonder all the earthB
God should grant it such a birthB
-
Not of man's flesh or man's bloodC
Only of the Spirit of GodD
Is God's Word a man becomeE
And blooms the fruit of woman's wombF
-
Maiden she was found with childA
Nor was chastity defiledA
Many a virtue from her shoneG
God was there upon his throneG
-
From that chamber of contentA
Royal palace pure he wentA
God by kind in human graceH
Forth he comes to run his raceH
-
From the Father came his roadA
And returns again to GodA
Unto hell it did go downI
Up then to the Father's throneG
-
Thou the Father's form expressJ
Get thee victory in the fleshK
That thy godlike power in usL
Make sick flesh victoriousL
-
Shines thy manger bright and fairM
Sets the night a new star thereM
Darkness thence must keep awayN
Faith dwells ever in the dayN
-
Honour unto God be doneO
Honour to his only sonO
Honour to the Holy GhostA
Now and ever ending not AmenP
