Christ Jesus our Redeemer bornA
Who from us did God's anger turnB
Through his sufferings sore and mainC
Help he us all out of hell painC
-
That we never should forget itD
Gave he us his flesh to eat itD
Hid in poor bread gift divineE
And to drink his blood in the wineE
-
Who will draw near to that tableF
Must take heed all he is ableF
Who unworthy thither goesG
Thence death instead of life he sowsG
-
God the Father praise thou dulyH
That he thee would feed so trulyH
And for ill deeds by thee doneI
Up unto death has given his sonI
-
Have this faith and do not waverJ
'Tis a food for every craverJ
Who his heart with sin opprestD
Can no more for its anguish restD
-
Such kindness and such grace to getD
Seeks a heart with labour greatD
Is it well with thee take careK
Lest at last thou shouldst evil fareK
-
He doth say Come hither O yeH
Poor that I may pity show yeH
From the leech the sound will startD
And make a mockery of his artD
-
Hadst thou any skill to offerJ
Why for thee should I then sufferJ
Table this is not for theeH
If saviour thou thine own canst beH
-
If such faith thy heart possessesL
And the same thy mouth confessesM
Fit guest then thou art indeedD
And so this food thy soul will feedD
-
But bear fruit or lose thy labourN
Take thou heed thou love thy neighbourN
That thou food to him mayst beH
As thy God makes himself to theeH
